FAQ’S
Q: What are the advantages of Crystal Film versus foil and similar weaving products?
A: Crystal Film provides a window for your creativity. Crystal Film is transparent so you can view the color as it develops, saving time. Easily locate dry spots and correct when needed. Ensure successful processing time frames by viewing product development.
Q: What are the advantages of Crystal Film versus tipping and frosting caps?
A: Crystal Film allows more creative control compared to using a cap. With caps, holes are pre-punched, dictating where hair can be highlighted. Also, with Crystal Film, color can be applied closer to the scalp.
Q: How does the cost of Crystal Film compare to foil and similar weaving products?
A: When similar techniques are used, folding the sheet or layering one on top of the other, the cost of using Crystal Film is comparable or less than other weaving products, including foil. Because it does not tear, there is no waste.
Q: Will I have to learn new techniques?
A: It is not necessary to learn new techniques. Crystal Film will accommodate all the current color weaving, block coloring, virgin bleaching and hair straightening techniques. Chemicals can be applied in a painting motion, either away from your body or towards your body. We however, recommend the Pinch, Place and Paint method. Q: What is the Pinch, Place, and Paint Method?
A: The Pinch, Place and Paint method is a simple technique that will ensure you get the best results in the shortest amount of time. Please see example and step-by-step photos on the Instructions page or click here to view the instructional video.
Q: Will Crystal Film slip in the hair?
A: Once chemicals have been applied, Crystal Film sheets will stay in place.
Q: Can Crystal Film be used with hair-coloring boards?
A: Yes. Simply substitute Crystal Film for the weaving product (foil, paper etc.) you are currently using. However, we recommend the Pinch, Place and Paint method of application in which the head acts as a board. To view the instructional video, please click here.
Q: Can the Crystal Film be folded?
A: Crystal Film can be folded over once. Folding the Crystal Film is commonly used in weave touch-ups by isolating the saturated roots while the remainder of the uncolored shaft is outside the film. We recommend the sandwich technique when coloring the entire strand of hair.
Q: Will the processing chemicals leak through the sheets?
A: One of the most common problems with virtually all color weaving tools is bleeding of the color. Because of Crystal Film’s natural static conductivity, it adheres to itself and to the chemicals creating a seal and minimizing the chances of bleeding. With Crystal Film, you are able to correct bleeding before it occurs simply by wiping excess color away from the edges of the Crystal Film sheets. With foil or paper, you are unable to see bleeding until it has already occurred. A color thickener may be added if desired.
Q: How does the preparation time compare to foil or other similar weaving products?
A: Crystal Film sheets are pre-measured and pre-cut for you. No preparation time to measure, cut or fold saves time and money.
Q: How does Crystal Film’s application time compare to other weaving products?
A: Whether using the Pinch, Place and Paint method or painting towards your body, there is no need to fold or unfold to determine color order or color saturation, as needed with products that are not see-through. If you follow the Pinch, Place and Paint method, application time may be greatly decreased, reducing the client’s time in the chair. Multiple color applications can be preformed with ease.
Q: How does Crystal Film’s developing time compare to other weaving products?
A: The developing time is generally quicker. While this is an element that depends on the client and products used, the natural static conductivity created by Crystal Film can reduce developing time. In addition, most stylists periodically check the color by opening and unfolding the foil. Each time they do this, air is introduced, slowing the process down.
Q: How many sheets of Crystal Film would be required to do an average weave?
A: You will use a similar number of sheets as foil or paper depending on the technique that you choose. Crystal Film is highly durable. It will not tear or lose its shape so there is NO WASTE.
Q: Can 4″ x 6″ sheets of Crystal Film be used for long hair?
A: Yes, the 4″ x 6″ sheets are easy to use for long hair. Simply fold the saturated hair within the boundaries of the sheet. Or you may use the 4 1/2″ x 9″ sheets for long hair.
Q: Can Crystal Film be used with all processing chemicals?
A: Yes. We recommend following all manufacturers’ instructions.
Q: Can Crystal Film be reused?
A: Crystal Film is not designed to be re-used. It is priced to be disposed of after use.
Q: Can Crystal Film be used with heat including hair dryers, heat lamps, etc?
A: Heat will not affect the integrity of Crystal Film. However, most hair colors do not require heat for the processing to occur. Due to Crystal Film’s natural static conductivity, hair dryers and heat lamps may not be needed to process. Also, color chemicals tend to thin out when heated, and are more likely to bleed. If Crystal Film is used with dryers or heat lamps, the color may process even faster than with other weaving products. We recommend checking the color sooner than you normally would. If the color chemical is a heat-activated product, then you must use heat.
Q: How is Crystal Film different from other see-through weaving products in the industry?
A: Crystal Film’s material is pliable and easy to handle. There is no tape or Velcro which may pull the hair or hurt the client. Some see-through products are heavier in weight and are more likely to slip in the hair. Also, not all see-through weaving products have the clarity of Crystal Film. Combined with the Pinch, Place and Paint technique, Crystal Film provides total versatility, allowing you to achieve greater results with even the most advanced color applications.
Q: Can Crystal Film be used for other chemical applications besides weaving?
A: Yes. Crystal Film is ideal for chemical straightening and virgin bleaching. Please refer to the special techniques section of the website for more information on the other chemical applications.
